Welcome
The decision to initiate a family law proceeding, or the need to respond to an action initiated by another person, is not something that one does on the spur of the moment. Generally, the issues needing to be addressed have been building for years. As a result, when you reach the point where action must be taken, it is important that you seek advice from a reliable source, an attorney who specializes in dealing with family law problems.
Depending on your situation and circumstances you may be able to handle the matter with assistance from a paralegal, or through the Self Help Center at the Superior Court offices in Watsonville. However, if you are facing a situation that requires a knowledgeable and experienced attorney, I will advise you not to go it alone, whether you decide to retain me or another attorney. I am aware that one size does not fit all when it comes to selecting legal counsel and there are a number of fine family law attorneys in Santa Cruz County.
Where to Begin...
At the outset your situation can seem overwhelming: divorce or legal separation? If not married, how to secure custodial rights and establish a co-parenting arrangement? Is support available? Is support required? How is the property divided? If there is abuse or domestic violence, are restraining orders an option? How much will this cost and who is going to pay?
I have been practicing law in Santa Cruz County since 1989, focusing exclusively on family law since 1996. Since 2007 I have been certified as a Family Law Specialist by the California State Bar, Board of Legal Specialization. Over the years I have handled a wide array of matters involving family law situations, including dissolution of marriage, establishing parentage and parental rights, child custody and visition, child support and spousal support, division of community property, and registered domestic partnerships. Whatever questions you may have concerning your particular situation, I encourage you to take the first step towards answering your family law questions by calling for an appointment.
